What kind of ports are on the iFire?

The iFire has 3 ports, one for power, one for audio, and one for connecting Speakers.

The first port is the FireWire port, (Fig 1.) The iFire draws power via the FireWire port in order to provide an amplified audio signal to Apple's Pro Speakers. The iFire does not use FireWire to transmit audio. It is used only to provide power. Connect the supplied FireWire cable from this port to a FireWire port on your Mac or PC. Keep in mind that your PC must have a 6 pin FireWire connector for this to work.

(Note: When using the iFire with an iPod, DO NOT connect the iFire's FireWire cable directly to your iPod as the iPod cannot supply power to the iFire. You must connect the iFire to the iPod's AC power adapter via the supplied FireWire cable.)

The second port is the Audio Input port, (Fig 2.) It is a standard 1/8" stereo mini-plug port. You will connect your audio device to the iFire using this port. Practically any device with audio output (iPod, Mac, PC, CD player, etc.) can be used with the iFire. While your audio device does not have to have a FireWire port in order to be used with the iFire, the iFire MUST be connected to a FireWire port in order to function (see iPod example above).

The third port is the Pro Speaker port, (Fig. 3.) This port can accept either a set of Apple Pro Speakers or the Griffin Pro Speaker Breakout Cable (which allows the iFire to power a pair of standard, non-powered speakers). Standard 1/8" stereo mini-plugs WILL NOT fit into this port.
