What about my specific dongle?

PowerBook G3 Issues

The Lombard PowerBook G3s are compatible with the iMate but there are some special considerations. When using hardware protection dongles, it may sometimes be neccessary to disable sleep mode. When these PowerBooks go to sleep, power is removed from the USB bus. When it awakens the iMate driver resets the ADB devices.

With some hardware protection dongles the setup information that was provided by the application during startup may be lost when power is removed from the USB/ADB bus and the dongle will not function properly. This is the case with Logic Audio and probably Lightwave (not tested) and possibly other programs as well.

The newer Pismo PowerBook G3s do not have this issue with sleep mode.

General Dongle Issues

If you are having intermittent problems with dongles, you may need to set the Listen Delay (Faster - Compatible) to a higher number with the iMate Control panel. This may be particularily true if you are using many ADB devices or devices that use a great deal of ADB bandwidth i.e. drawing tablets.

Play Electric iMage

We have tested Electric Image with the iMate extensively and have never had problems with the default settings however a few customers have stated that it only works if the ADB Polling speed to 13-15 ms using the iMate control panel.

Archicad

Archicad may have intermitent problems with the default driver settings. Use the iMate Control panel and change the Listen Delay (Faster - Compatible) to a higher value, 25-30 ms, if you experience any problems.

Puffin Designs Commotion

Commotion and Primatte Keyer have been tested and appear to work very well. On a PowerBook G3 (Lombard), we were unable to start up the program with the "Winding Road" Plug-in in the "Fun Fun Fun" Plug-in folder. This may have been a problem with our particular copy but if Commotion gets completely started up and then suddenly quits, you should probably try removing this Plug-in.

QuarkXpress Passport

QuarkXpress Passport works with the Quark (Rainbow) hardware protection dongle. Older versions of Passport that use the Microguard dongle require the iMate version 2.5 or later.

Scitex RIP Dongles

The hardware protection dongles for Scitex RIPs may need the Listen Delay (Faster - Compatible) set to a higher value. The reason is that the RIP process requires a great deal of CPU usage and timing sensitive operations may be effected. Generally setting the Listen Delay to 25-30 ms should allow the Scitex RIPs to work fine. In some rare cases a higher number (40-64 ms) may be required.
