How Do I Use the PowerWave in GarageBand?
To record in Apple's GarageBand software using the Griffin PowerWave, just follow the instructions listed below:
Connecting the PowerWave:
Connect the PowerWave directly to a USB port on your Mac.
Connect your source device to the PowerWave's input jack (the input jack is identified by an icon of a microphone; the PowerWave's output jack has an icon of a pair of headphones).
Set the PowerWave's Gain switch to the correct position (towards Line for line level devices; towards Mic for mic level devices).
In Mac OS X:
Open Audio MIDI Setup (Applications > Utilities).
In the System Settings, Default Input pop-up menu, select PowerWave USB audio system.
In the Properties For pop-up menu, select PowerWave USB audio system.
Under Audio Input, make sure that Format is set to 44100.0Hz, 2ch-16bit.
In GarageBand:
Open GarageBand.
Select Preferences from the GarageBand menu.
Click the Audio/MIDI icon in the Preferences window.
Select PowerWave USB audio system in the Audio Input pop-up menu.
Close the Preferences window.
Select New Track from the Track menu.
Click the Real Instrument tab, then select Basic Track > No Effects (alternately, select the type of instrument you want to record as well as whatever effects are available).
Set the Format to Stereo, and set the Monitor to On if you want to monitor your audio as you are recording.
Click OK.
Start recording!
