I am getting short range with the remote.

Generally the range is limited to 60 feet (18 meters) however this may vary depending on your environment. Some types of building materials can cause more interference than others so your mileage may vary through walls and around corners. There are other causes of interference that can greatly limit your range, including RF signals produced by other devices such as computers and phones.
